Wounded Falcons
Jairo Buitrago, illustrated by Rafael Yockteng
After school, Adrián and Santiago spend time in an overgrown, trash-filled lot near their neighborhood. Adrián is angry after a fight that has left him with a black eye and cut lip when he discovers a falcon with an injured wing. He brings the bird home, and later the two boys take it to someone known for treating broken bones. Adrián identifies with the frightened falcon. The story follows the boys’ friendship and their care for the wounded bird.
