The World’s Best Class Plant
Liz Garton Scanlon, Audrey Vernick, illustrated by Lynnor Bontigao
Arlo and his classmates would rather have a classroom pet than their mostly green, slow-growing plant. They take turns watering it, sometimes forgetting because it makes no sounds. When their teacher suggests the name Jerry, the class begins treating the plant differently and offers ideas for caring for it. They discover that Jerry is a spider plant and learn that too much water can kill it. The class also learns that the plant grows spiderettes, which can be removed to become new plants.
