Naliah practices a traditional Vietnamese Fan Dance for her school’s International Day while wearing her mother’s yellow áo dài, decorated with swans and water lilies. After she accidentally tears it, she hides the dress. Her mother shares the history of the dress, which Naliah’s grandmother wore in Vietnam, and explains that she once made a similar tear. Together, the family turns the new rip into part of the garment’s story.
