The Swallows’ Flight

Set between the late 1920s and 1947, this novel alternates among four young people whose lives are shaped by World War II. Berlin friends Erik and Hans grow up sharing adventures and dreams as Hitler rises; despite their unease about the changes around them, both become Luftwaffe pilots. In Britain, twelve-year-old pen pals Ruby and Kate contend with wartime separation, family tensions, and uncertainty. Ruby’s brother Will goes missing in France, while Kate wants to contribute to the war effort. Their shared godmother brings the girls together.
