The Phantom Twin

Jane and Isabel Peabody are conjoined twins who share an arm and leg and perform in a traveling circus sideshow in what appears to be the 1920s. As teenagers, they undergo an experimental separation surgery, but Jane dies. Isabel survives with a crude prosthetic arm and leg and continues performing as the Mechanical Girl. For Isabel, however, Jane remains present like a phantom limb and resents her sister’s survival. After an undercover journalist exposes the sideshow’s fakery, Isabel loses her place there and seeks a different life.
