Mr. Coats is always cold, so he stays beside his stoves, making his house too hot for visitors and leaving him lonely. After three heavy coats fail to warm him, he turns blankets into more coats until he has so many that he can no longer fit inside his home. His cone-shaped coat-house attracts attention and leads him to meet a woman who is also perpetually cold and lives among coats. Their companionship changes both of their lives.
