Eleven-year-old Hoodoo Hatcher senses danger when a mysterious Stranger comes to town. The man serves the devil and is searching for Mandragore, which turns out to be Hoodoo’s left hand. Hoodoo learns that his father, who was lynched years earlier, had tried to use conjuring to escape into his son’s body and only reached the hand. To defend his family and friends, Hoodoo searches an old book belonging to his father for spells and knowledge, then finds power in that hand.
