Farmhouse

Sophie Blackall imagines the lives of a white family who once lived in a farmhouse she purchased. Twelve children were born and raised there, amid music, books, chores, sickness, dreams, arguments, and changing seasons. The children eventually leave one by one, and the empty house slowly erodes as nature enters its rooms. Later, Blackall discovers objects in the ruins, including wallpaper scraps, books, maps, dresses, handkerchiefs, and a shell button, and imagines the family’s earlier life.
