CBC Favorites Awards

CBC Favorites is an annual reading and voting program run by the Children's Book Council. Thousands of children, teens, teachers, and librarians in participating schools and libraries across the United States read newly published books submitted by publishers and vote for the titles they like best. Books with the most votes form the Kids Favorites, Middle-Grade Favorites, and Teen Favorites, while participating teachers and librarians produce their own lists. The program began in 1974 as Children's Choices. These results offer something different from a committee award: they show which books appealed to large groups of young readers and the adults who work with them. The voter groups are worth considering separately. A child's favorite may also appear among the teacher or librarian selections, but each appearance reflects a different vote. Families can begin with the relevant age group and look for titles that appear across more than one voter group. The lists are a source of ideas, not a rule about what an individual child should enjoy.
