Thomas and five other preschoolers arrive for a winter ballet class led by Mr. Elliot. After putting away their outdoor clothes and changing into ballet shoes, they stretch, practice positions, and try turns and jumps. The dancers also improvise with enthusiasm as they prepare for an upcoming performance of The Nutcracker. Thomas chooses a purple, sequined costume for the Sugar Plum Fairy but feels nervous about appearing onstage. Mr. Elliot encourages him to listen and move with the music, and Thomas performs.
