Another Squiggly Story

A young boy receives a classroom assignment from Mr. Lopez: write about himself. The blank page leaves him unsure how to begin, so at home his sister explains that this kind of writing is autobiography. She describes building a personal story through lists of what she does and feels. The boy starts a piece titled “The Story of Me” and makes lists of things he likes, knows, and wants to become. He still cannot see how the lists form a story. His sister suggests looking for connections among them, and after they visit the park, he returns to the lists with a fresh perspective.
