Covered in Color: Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s Fabrics of Freedom

This biography follows artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude and the development of their large-scale fabric installations. As a child in Bulgaria, Christo loses his art books when his parents destroy them after Nazi laws take effect. Later, in art school under Soviet control, he wants his paintings to reveal lived realities while officials demand propaganda. He leaves Bulgaria for France, meets Jeanne-Claude, and develops a practice of wrapping objects. After moving to the United States, the pair pursue a Central Park installation while creating works around structures, islands, and an Australian shoreline. More than two decades later, they install The Gates, orange flags winding through Central Park.
