Ablaze with Color: A Story of Painter Alma Thomas
Jeanne Walker Harvey
This picture-book biography follows Alma Thomas from her childhood in Georgia, where she loved the colors outdoors, through her life as an artist and arts educator. After school segregation pushed her family to Washington, D.C., she earned an art degree and worked to bring arts education to students excluded from it. Near age seventy, she began her own artistic career, creating vibrant geometric paintings built from dashes and dabs of color that later appeared in galleries and museums.
