A Wild, Wild Hanukkah

Jo Gershman, Bob Strauss, illustrated by Jo Gershman

On the first night of Hanukkah, a polar bear enters a family’s home carrying an empty platter. Across the following nights, more animal guests arrive, their numbers matching each night of the holiday. The animals add to a noisy celebration by bringing ingredients or helping make traditional Hanukkah foods. Singing owls prepare latkes, chimpanzees fling flour, and penguins play dreidel. Animal shadows appear as a child falls asleep, suggesting that the exuberant gathering may be a dream. The story ends with the holiday celebration fully underway.
