Remembering
Xelena González
A Latina girl and her family remember their beloved dog during Día de los Angelitos, a Día de Muertos ritual honoring deceased children and pets. Together they prepare an ofrenda with photographs, the dog’s food and water dishes, a chew stick, harness, and tennis ball. Candles, incense, and marigolds complete the altar and create a path home on the sacred night. The family’s preparations hold space for memories, companionship, and grief.
