Yara’s Spring

Yara grows up in Aleppo with her parents, younger brother Saad, and grandmother, living behind the family bakery and attending dance class with her friend Shireen. As the Arab Spring begins, her uncle’s hope for change gives way to fear as government violence escalates. Government bombs strike Yara’s home and kill her parents. Yara, Saad, Nana, Shireen, and Shireen’s brother Ali survive and begin traveling toward refuge. Their goal is Jordan, but they must first reach Damascus and Yara’s uncle.
