When I Am Happiest

Near the end of Dani’s first year at school, she looks forward to the final-day festivities and remembers moments from the year. Her excitement stops when her teacher tells her that her father has been hit by a car while bicycling to work. Dani goes to her grandparents’ home, struggles to contain her fear, and eventually insists on visiting him in the hospital. There, she finds both a frightening situation and a brief sign of reassurance when her father wakes and says her name.
