This Moth Saw Brightness
A. A Vacharat
D, a Vietnamese and white teenager, joins a prestigious teen-health study hoping to exceed his father’s low expectations; his crush Jane is also enrolled. Participants receive a wristband, daily phone puzzles and questions, and an unexplained pill. As D and Jane compare experiences, sometimes joined by D’s technologically skilled friend Kermit, they begin to suspect the study has a hidden and unethical purpose. A participant’s sudden departure from school deepens D’s worry, and he starts tracking changes in himself.
