A young boy wakes his father early for beach day, full of energy and eager to go. At the beach, the crowds and noise quickly become overwhelming. Sand feels unpleasant in his boots and bathing suit, covers his toy shark, and is hot underfoot; he wants to leave. His father helps him pause by taking deep breaths, squeezing Sharkie, tapping fingers, and counting to three. They continue these calming actions until he feels better. With his father’s support, the boy is able to take part in beach activities while the sounds that troubled him become more manageable.
