After Peter’s older brother Nelson dies, Peter’s Taiwanese American family is struggling with grief. Baseball had been important to Peter, Nelson, and their mother, so Peter joins a team hoping it will draw his mother back into the game. Instead, his father, Ba, volunteers as coach. Peter resents him, especially because Ba argued with Nelson about the Vietnam War. The team also faces conflict when a strong player, Aaron, is revealed to be Erin, and some parents object.
