Maisie has long planned to become a professional ballet dancer, but a knee injury interrupts her intensive training. Physical therapy does not ease her fear that she will miss spring auditions, and she struggles with school, the loss of closeness with ballet friends, and depression she does not initially recognize. During a family trip to the Olympic Peninsula, where they hike and hunt razor clams, a fall reinjures her tendon.
