The Passing Playbook

At a new private high school, Black and biracial Spencer chooses not to disclose that he is trans after a difficult experience at his previous school. His parents urge caution, including avoiding soccer, but Spencer tries out without permission and makes the team. He grows close to teammate Justice, who is gay but not out to his conservative religious family. As their relationship develops, Spencer weighs when and whether to come out. He also supports genderqueer classmate Riley’s effort to secure a gender-neutral bathroom, while a discriminatory league rule threatens his spot on the team.
