The Homesick Club

Mónica, who is from Bolivia, and her friend Hannah, from Israel, miss particular parts of their former homes. Hannah recalls desert sun, wind, and a tortoise; Mónica misses frogs, mango trees, hummingbirds, and time with her grandmother. They start a Homesick Club at lunch. When their new teacher, Miss Shelby from Texas, is alone in the lunchroom, Mónica invites her to join. Miss Shelby shares what she misses too, including open skies, peach trees, a raccoon, and hummingbird cake. Her explanation gives Mónica an idea for show-and-tell.
