The Harlem Charade
Natasha Tarpley
Seventh-graders Jin, Alex, and Elvin live in Harlem and come together around a search for missing paintings by a Black woman activist artist from the 1960s. The investigation becomes more urgent after Elvin's grandfather is attacked and hospitalized. Their work connects the recovered painting, the missing art, and plans by a councilman to create a Harlem cultural amusement park. As the three unravel these links, the history and present-day life of Harlem remain central to the mystery.
