The Forgotten Girl
India Hill Brown
Iris and her friend Daniel find Avery Moore’s grave in an abandoned cemetery near their homes. Soon afterward, Iris sees a Black girl at her window asking her to come outside and play. Research for a school project reveals that local cemeteries were once segregated and that many African American burial grounds were abandoned during the Great Migration. Iris and Daniel also uncover Avery’s connection to school integration in the 1950s, while Avery’s ghost insists that neither girl be forgotten.
