The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

In this adaptation of William Kamkwamba’s memoir, a drought in Malawi leaves his family unable to pay his school fees. William continues visiting the village primary-school library, where books about science inspire him to build a windmill. Using scavenged materials, he first powers a small lightbulb at home, then builds a larger windmill and wires the house. His experiments require scientific understanding and creative thinking, and he persists through failed attempts and ridicule from people who do not understand what he is making.
