The Boy and the Gorilla

After his mother dies, a young boy is accompanied by a gorilla that appears as he grieves. The gorilla offers a calm presence and responds to the boy’s questions about death, including what happens when a person’s body stops working. The boy’s father remains nearby and is grieving quietly, too. Over time, the father takes the gorilla’s place as the person who can comfort his son and answer those difficult questions. The illustrations use watercolor and ink.
