Sweeping Up the Heart
Kevin Henkes
During spring break in Madison, seventh grader Amelia expects to work on a project at a neighborhood ceramic studio. There she meets Casey, the studio owner’s talkative nephew, who is staying with his aunt while his parents deal with problems in their marriage. The two make up stories about people passing by at lunch. When Casey connects a woman they see with Amelia’s mother, who died when Amelia was two, Amelia becomes unsettled as she notices the woman repeatedly around the neighborhood.
