Stars in Their Eyes

Maisie attends her first fan convention with her mother, hoping to meet an actor from her favorite television show, Midnight Girls. An above-the-knee amputee who uses a prosthetic leg after childhood cancer, Maisie values seeing an amputee character played by an amputee. At the convention she meets Ollie, a nonbinary attendee eager to meet an actor portraying television’s first openly nonbinary character. As the busy event brings fatigue and chronic pain, Maisie uses quiet rooms and relies on her mother’s familiarity with convention culture.
