Long ago in Jerusalem, Esther and Ezra bake challah for families preparing for Shabbat. Their young delivery worker, Jacob, usually drives a wagon through the city with the horse Soosie, collecting payment as the bread is delivered. One morning Jacob is too sick to make the route. Trusting that Soosie knows it from memory, he suggests sending her with the wagon, the challah, and a note asking neighbors to pay as they normally would. Soosie then travels across the city making the deliveries.
