School’s First Day of School

Adam Rex

Frederick Douglass Elementary is newly built and nervous about its first day, just as many of its students are. Before school begins, Janitor cleans the floors while the building is still quiet. When the children arrive, the school worries about the crowd, noise, mess, and students who are afraid or do not want to attend. During the day, it learns in kindergarten, and by dismissal it wants the children to return. The story gives the school itself a point of view.
