Safiyyah’s War
Hiba Noor Khan
In occupied Paris, Safiyyah and her Algerian French family live in the Grand Mosque, where her father and uncle assist the Resistance. Her father hides injured Allied soldiers and prepares false papers that identify Jewish people as Muslim. When Nazi attention falls on him, Safiyyah takes over delivering those documents. As Jewish neighbors vanish, her family and other Resistance members shelter people in the mosque before helping them leave France through a tunnel and by barge.
