Sad, the Dog
Sandy Fussell, illustrated by Tull Suwannakit
A small dog calls himself Sad after the older couple who own him never give him a name. They provide for his basic needs but show him little affection, and they leave him behind when they move. A new family arrives at the house and welcomes the dog. Their son, Jack, patiently encourages Sad to trust him. Once the dog does, Jack gives him a new name: Lucky. The story traces the dog’s loneliness, his cautious response to care, and his place in a new home.
