In 1932 Sydney, Razorhurst is divided between gangs led by Gloriana Nelson and Jim Davidson. The uneasy truce between them is endangered after Jimmy Palmer, Gloriana’s right-hand man, is killed. Kelpie, an orphan who can see and speak with ghosts, finds the murder scene, where Dymphna Campbell, Jimmy’s girlfriend, is also present. As police arrive, Kelpie and Dymphna escape together, accompanied by Jimmy’s ghost. Over less than a day, they move through Razorhurst and Sydney while both gang leaders pursue them; aspiring writer Neal Darcy becomes involved as well.
