Not Here to Be Liked

Junior Eliza Quan expects to become editor of her high school newspaper unopposed until staff writer Len DiMartile enters the race and wins. Eliza, who is Chinese and Vietnamese American, is experienced and hardworking but not especially sociable; Len is a former baseball player with an easy warmth. After a private rant Eliza writes about misogyny and patriarchy appears on the newspaper’s website, it sparks a feminist movement at school. Popular student Serena Hwangbo joins the effort, and Len becomes an ally, even as Eliza begins to develop feelings for him.
