Not an Easy Win

After moving to Larenville, North Carolina, with his mother and younger sister, Lawrence repeatedly gets into trouble for fighting when other students taunt him. Following his expulsion from school, he spends time at an after-school program run by Mr. Dennis, where he completes online work, helps prepare for other children, and learns chess. When Deuce provokes him again, Lawrence begins to consider a different response. A shared interest in music helps Lawrence and Deuce move toward a new relationship.
