Nibi’s Water Song
Sunshine Tenasco, illustrated by Chief Lady Bird
Nibi is thirsty, but brown water runs from the tap at her home and at her neighbor’s. She goes to a nearby town with large houses to ask for water and receives only a small plastic bottle. Nibi makes a sign, sings, and dances; friends join her, followed eventually by people from that town. Together they share ideas with rule-makers about healing the water. An author’s note connects the story to First Nations communities that lack access to clean water.
