My Awesome Summer by P. Mantis

P. Mantis keeps a diary for five months, beginning with her emergence in May. Her entries follow her rapid growth, appetite, camouflage, ability to turn her head, eventual flight, and repeated molts as she matures. Along the way, the narrative includes facts about praying mantises and their development. At summer’s end, P. lays eggs on the plant where her life began and settles down. Notes on the endpapers explain that adult mantises do not survive winter, while their eggs carry on the cycle.
