Mexique: A Refugee Story from the Spanish Civil War

A young child leaves Spain aboard the Mexique during the Spanish Civil War, separated from her parents and unsure of the destination. Her mother frames the journey as a long summer stay, while an older girl, Clara, looks after her on the ship. As the children travel, they wonder about the place ahead and sometimes weep at night. On reaching Mexico, they are welcomed by a crowd waving handkerchiefs and hope they have escaped the war.
