Max is a cat determined to catch the fish in a bowl of water. His paws and legs are always ready to pounce, but other things repeatedly take his attention: catnip birds, dirty socks, dangling shoelaces, and whatever else crosses his path. Though he keeps returning to the fish, Max is easily pulled into new targets and attacks around the house. Rhyming text follows his restless cat behavior as the brightly colored fish remain a recurring counterpoint to his distractions. The story centers on Max’s energetic attempts, interruptions, and return to the bowl.
