In 1913 Birmingham, Alabama, Frank is fascinated by elephants, especially their trunks, feet, and swishing tails. When Miss Fancy leaves the circus and arrives at Avondale Park, only two blocks from his home, Frank wants to pet her. Segregation keeps him from entering the whites-only park, so he looks for a way to challenge the restriction and meet the elephant. When Miss Fancy escapes, chaos follows.
