Little Shrew
Akiko Miyakoshi, illustrated by Akiko Miyakoshi
Little Shrew lives by a carefully established schedule. He eats the same breakfast, brushes his fur with a longtime hairbrush, and goes to work at a currency exchange. His evenings and days off have their own tasks, from laundry and cooking to playing with a Rubik’s Cube. At a garage sale, he trades his scarf for an old television and sees the ocean for the first time. The image gives him a wish to visit a tropical island, which he continues to imagine through a found poster.
