When a pandemic forces Parisa and Gabriela’s final year of school online, their close friendship must adapt to a world of virtual connections and physical precautions. Iranian American Parisa withdraws after Andrew, a former friend, becomes ill and dies. At home, she stays in touch with Gabriela and with Gideon, her older sister’s boyfriend, who helps with her college essay as their relationship grows uncertain. Mexican American Gabriela cannot remain home because she needs to earn money for college and help her two mothers. She and Wes fall in love while looking for safe ways to be near each other.
