After graduating high school, Nao returns to Japan, where she was born, to reconnect with its language and culture. She spends a gap year in Tokyo at Himawari Sharehouse and attends language school. Her housemates include Hyejuno from Korea, Tina from Singapore, and Japanese brothers Shinichi and Masaki, each with their own experiences. Nao’s year includes meals, television dramas, late-night conversations, school pressure, romance, and an expanding ability to use Japanese. The graphic novel incorporates English, Japanese, Korean, and Singlish in its dialogue.
