This three-part graphic novel follows Hector Zolile Pieterson, his sister Antoinette Sithole, and photographer Sam Nzima in Soweto in 1976. On June 16, Hector heads to school and is caught between Black students demonstrating and white police. The protest opposes curriculum changes requiring more instruction in Afrikaans and less in students’ native languages. Sam photographs the event, and after police confiscate his film, one roll remains hidden.
