Healer of the Water Monster

Eleven-year-old Nathan spends part of the summer with his grandmother, Nali, on the Navajo reservation in New Mexico. Lost in the desert, he is saved by an ill water monster called Pond and promises to help heal the Holy Being. With guidance from a talking lizard, Nathan journeys to the Third World to seek medicine from Mother Water Monster. Meanwhile, his family seeks help for Uncle Jet’s depression and drinking through a traditional ceremony. Nathan learns that Pond’s illness is linked to radiation from a polluted lake.
