Dandan prepares to leave China with her family and pays close attention to the last Lunar New Year celebration she will share with her friend Yueyue. The girls make red paper snowflakes, freeze them into ornaments, and hang them on trees for the holiday. Yueyue gives Dandan paper and string so she can continue the tradition after moving to the United States. Dandan misses home and needs time to learn English, but before the next Lunar New Year, she and a classmate, Christina, make the ornaments together.
