Fox dislikes winter because his friends have migrated south or gone into hibernation. He tries to make companions from snow, then attempts to leave for warmer places, only to find transportation unavailable for the season. His plan to fight winter with a flamethrower ends when a blizzard puts it out. Eventually Fox meets Rabbit, who shows him another way to live with winter’s solitude. The two decide they can be alone together, turning an isolating season into a new friendship.
