Fish Fry Friday: A Picture Book
Winsome Bingham, illustrated by C. G. Esperanza
When school is closed on a Friday, a child joins Granny on her usual fishing trip before the family fish fry. They pack rods, reels, lures, lines, bobbers, and bait, then fish together at the pier. After bringing home their catch, the child helps clean and prepare the fish while Granny teaches the steps for making batter. The child also suggests using leftover batter for hushpuppies before relatives arrive with dishes for the evening meal.
