An Anishinaabe teenager named Shane is grieving the suicide of his younger sister, Destiny, and worrying about his depressed mother. After graduation, financial difficulties and damage to the family home prevent him from leaving the reservation for college in Toronto. Shane hopes to live openly as a gay man in the city and is secretly involved with David, who is reluctant both to leave and to come out. As Shane’s plans narrow, he becomes increasingly desperate and considers an unwise way out.
